Welcome to the Education Simulation and Safety (ESS) Collaborative website.

Who are the ESS Collaborative?

The ESS Collaborative is a group of high profile nursing and midwifery academics from Australia and New Zealand whose shared agenda is to conduct cutting edge research designed to improve patient outcomes and evaluate the impact of educational initiatives. We also provide a collective voice on the scholarship of healthcare simulation.

Why is the Education, Simulation and Safety (ESS) Collaborative needed?

Simulation is an education technique in which substantial aspects of real world situations are recreated and used as experiential learning. Although simulation has long been used in the education Concurrently the patient safety agenda continues to evolve towards less prescriptive requirements for training and more explicit approaches to quality improvement. Thus simulation education needs to be balanced against real life clinical practice and directed towards acquiring and maintaining the right skills and approaches to provide safe, high quality health care for consumers.
